The Weather Outside....

There's a song with that line in it, "The weather outside is frightful." It's hard to get frightful weather in Northern California but endless days of rain do close golf courses.

I had a great start to the new year in playing my first tournament a step above where I finished last year. Sam and I walked on that course and not only played well but enjoyed it. Since then we've had several tournaments cancel with the biggest alteration coming in my need to change golf club companies.

I was out with Mark Drohman, my instructor, one day a few weeks ago. As we were on the second hole he ask me an unusual question. "So, Byron, when you are hitting a shot with the Mizuno's do you ever doubt that this club will pull off the shot you desire?"

WHAT! What kind of question is that? As we begin to discuss the question it came to light that if I'm having doubts about my swing these can be fixed but if I'm doubting my golf clubs then there is no fix but to change clubs.

Mark made me turn around, go back to the clubhouse, put my clubs in the car and start looking for new clubs to work with. So, good bye Mizuno's and hello Taylormade R9's.

Mark said if I'm doubting my clubs in practice there's no way I'm going to use that club well with the needs of tournament play. I needed to find a club that I was confident of hitting good shots. That the club will do what I want it to do, when I want it to be done!

Okay then! This month I'm working with my new R9's and loving them. This puts me at the end of March for a return to tournament play with many good Pepsi Tour, Nationwide and other tours coming this year.

If possible it's my goal to play two qualifying schools this year. The first will be in the Spring up in British Columbia, Canada with the Canadian Tour. The second will be in November with the PGA Champions Tour.

So, here we go. Be looking for results and stories from the course.
Byron
