This event is the pre-qualifier for the Farmers Insurance Open. A PGA Tour event sponsored by...Farmers Insurance (Duh). It's the start of a new season and new anticipation for the year ahead.
Friday, three days before leaving for San Diego, I'm practicing with Mark Drohman (my golf coach) and after a very nice 7 iron within five feet he notices my iron and that the head is coming off. YIKES!!! It's Friday late afternoon --- who could possibly get this done in short notice.
I called Dan at Haggin Oaks and found to my delight that he was working all day Saturday. I'm not sure he enjoys that, but I was thrilled. Dan is a very knowledgeable club repairman but more than that he is just a great guy. I really enjoy the time hanging out learning more about the craft. I'm not very technical by nature so it's nice to understand why things work the way they do and he's such a blessing to me.
Well, not only did he have time to fix my 7 iron...he found two other irons needing work and he spinned and flowed my driver and three metal. Plus, we put all new Golf Pride tour gripes on. What a great grip.
Any way, because of Dan I'm on the road with club confidence. I consider Dan one part of my team, and it takes a strong team of people joining together to make this happen. So, as I start this season I want to thank, ahead of time, Brilliant Book House/Emerging Light my key sponsor, Green Tree Golf Club (#1 in Solano County for two years), Mark Drohman (golf coach) and Scott Thompson (course management). To Crystal and Kate and a God bigger than I ever imagined.
Looking forward to seeing some of you this year out there!
Byron
