We would just about start to warm up when flashes of lightening would strike around us. This is not a good moment for golfers who walk about with steel clubs swinging to the sky. I like the game but not enough to be a lightening rod.

Statue of Ben Hogan on site at the Colonial CC |
Ben Hogan was a steely eyed, exact player that spent many hours tweaking, messing about and generally finding new ways to hit the golf ball. He was never satisfied. He wasn't known for his casual demeanor or his need to be liked and in Scotland was called, "The Wee Ice Man." He had a wonderful career before a major car accident head on with a Greyhound bus created life long problems, yet he came back to have a fantastic second half of his career.
For me I'm most encouraged by the first part of Hogan's golf life. It took him quite some time to win on tour but when he did he found a personal confidence to be one of the greatest players, ever. He turned something that was good into greatness.
Obviously, I'm not on the course, as I'm writing this blog, but I hope to be out again tomorrow....pulling on the greatness that was Ben Hogan and the inspiration of the numerous amazing players that have walked the closely mown fairways of the Colonial Country Club.
Hit'em hard and look up!
