Inspired by a Four Wheeled Walker!

Every day that I travel to the gym I see one of my main inspirations. It never seems to fail. At first I was intrigued, which was followed by interest and later registered as wonder, that has turned into inspiration.

It's been over a year now that I have seen this woman, with the four wheeled walker, amble her way down the sidewalk to the local market. This is no ordinary walk like most of us would take. She is slight in build, elderly but determined and struggles to take each step. But on she goes for what I will guestimate as 1 - 1.5 miles each direction.  Most of us could cover that distance, do our brief shopping for the day, and return in let's say...one hour or so. Not so with this four wheeled inspiration. She grinds out each step and each step is much slower than I could tolerate. But off she goes to the market hunched over her mobile support with her basket empty on the way and her daily needs on the return walk.

I always watch for her and wonder if she possibly went through an injury, surgery or illness. But then it hit me. This women is amazing. Day after day she makes her trek to the market. She doesn't look up to view where she is, she just keeps her head down and trucks on. My thought is that she expends all her energy and will power on just the action of walking. You have seen this before. The person on your street that has had a stroke or illness and is now diligent to start the process of recovery. It's pain staking to watch much less consider. But on they go!

I have thought about asking her if she would like a ride but that would be silly. The entire point is to build not to just get a ride. I believe she is part of the 'Greatest Generation' that Tom Brokaw spoke of. That generation who knows about pain and loss, and working through adverse life circumstances.

It is her diligence that ultimately caused me to consider her one of my main inspirations. She doesn't quit. She keeps going step upon step. She has a clear goal in mind and she goes after it through the pain and obvious struggle. She is one of my inspirations to press in and go after the goal.

I don't know if I will ever meet her because I don't wish to stop her in the middle of her journey to the market. I don't want to interrupt her motivation, or interfere with her goal. But I do notice her and cheer her on. I want her to win. I want her to get stronger and see her walk -- hands free! To take steps that seem effortless.

She is an inspiration to me. The lady with the four wheeled walker.

Blessed beyond the course,
Byron
