A Great Legacy!

"Hey, you want to ride in the cart?" That is the question I'm asked when I go out for a practice round and find myself joining other players. I kindly respond, "No, I think I'll walk today."

I have to admit, carrying my clubs and playing eighteen holes is tiring. It isn't easy, so I picked up a new three wheeler by SunMountain. It is very cool. I don't always use it but it is so smooth and easy to push. It has places for everything; there is this umbrella holder for rain and sun. You can walk along on a hot day and be covered by your umbrella. What a great idea, and it cost about 7 - 10 golf carts of golf.

It's an amazing feeling to put my feet on the ground and walk the course. For me, it brings back such great memories of my youth when I was first playing golf. My dad would never let me ride a cart, but then he never rode. Nor my mom. They couldn't understand why anyone would desire to play golf from a cart. The entire point was to be on the course getting exercise and enjoying the beauty.

As a junior player I was restricted to certain times on the course. But a favorite of mine were the evenings, when my mom, dad and I would take three clubs of our choice and play five holes as the sun was about to set. The sky was amazing, the course was quiet and we would play for 25cents a hole. That was a lot of money for a 12 year old. My dad would teach me a bit of course management and he would try to teach my mom. That was never the best idea.

Those were blessed times. I lost my folks a number of years ago, but I will never forget how important those moments in the evenings were walking about the golf course, enjoying some friendly competition and hearing my mom say, "OH shut up Rex!"

So, now you know where I get my desire to walk. It's a great legacy and one I pray I will be able to maintain for many years to come.
