How to Cure Boredom

How do you cure boredom? My mother used to make me work around the house. It always seemed to me that the garage should have been the cleanest place on the face of the earth as many times as I had to clean that thing. I would be walking around the house complaining I was bored...what was I thinking? That was immediately followed by, "Byron, I have something for you to do." NOOOOO!!!! Not the garage again!

But you know there is truth in her process. If I was bored she put me to work. It didn't matter what I was doing just go do it. The last three weeks I have looked forward to playing tournaments but unfortunately my FAVOR500 account was drained of entrance fees and travel expenses leaving me left to boredom.

I decided to apply my mom's tool and put myself to work. I have been desiring to work on my putting skills and what better time to work than when I'm bored. I have been seeing such great growth and advances in my game, and there will always be room for further improvement yet I have desired more confidence with my putting.

This week I took a lesson from my swing coach Mark Drohman at Green Tree Golf Club. I will be spending the next few weeks building my putting skills to the next level to put them on display in tournament as soon as I'm able.

Summer is coming, temperatures are rising, and we will tend to play golf early in the mornings or in the late afternoons. Some of my favorite times on the course were in the early evening with my mom and dad, playing a Skins game for .25 a hole. It was such a great feeling when I would drop a putt to win the hole. It's never about how much money you win, it's about being in the competition. It's about the fun of competing with family and friends. I believe it was Ben Hogan who suggested that we should try and put a little risk reward in each round of golf we play. It keeps us honest and keeps us sharp.

I enjoy the competition at the professional tours and I'm looking forward to playing tournaments soon, very soon, very very soon...."I'm bored....what...Noooo...I'm not cleaning the garage Crystal."
