Looks are Deceiving

If you have been to Mare Island Golf Club on the Northeast side of the Bay you will understand the title of this blog. Most golf courses run about 6800 - 7100 yards, at least the courses we generally play in tournament. This little track runs just over 6100 yards with a plethora of short holes that make you wonder why people don't shoot way under par. That's the buzz about Mare Island. The low score for Monday's Pepsi Tour tournament was 69 1 under par, probably due to the course layout that lours you into believing you can smash a driver to the green when in reality you should be hitting irons off the tees and playing it safe.

Strong winds moving and swirling off the Bay add to the this little but tough track. The greens are over-sized postage stamps as this course is the oldest course West of the Mississippi. All in all it was a wonderful day as Justin and I had the opportunity to be in the same group again. I will miss our conversations as we strolled down the fairways together. I was inspired, encouraged and blessed to enjoy these last two tournaments with Justin and Scott.

We also had a gallery as Jeanne, Crystal and Kate came along for a good walk. It's short but don't think this little track won't give you some burn. Hills and more hills meet you on the journey around the course. Just above the #1 Tee is this old missile...maybe a reminder to hit it straight and true, which is just what I did. This Sunday I head back down to Callippe Preserve in Pleasanton for a one day Pepsi Tour event. Then on Monday I will be joining up with the team from Green Tree as we play a scramble together at Green Valley Country Club. It's a charity event and generally a great time.
