When does a frustration turn into expectation? When does a bad day turn into a good one? When does a rotten, no good day of golf turn into a 'great day out there?'
Monday, July 6th I played in my first ever US Open (senior) Qualifier. It had a lot of bitter sweet moments. The first sweet moment was when Sam and Lorrie came walking from the parking lot of the course prepared to follow my round. The first bitter moment was taking a double bogey on number 1 after a great drive.
It was great seeing PJ out there on number three. That was a double sweet moment on this par three when I looked up and she was working as an NCGA volunteer and I nearly chipped in for a birdie. Double sweet.
I had a number of bitter moments with putts lipping the edge of the cup or falling one or two inches off at the end --- all day. But a sweet moment was seeing Crystal waiting for me around the 9th green with a group of friends who have been such a fantastic encouragment. Sweet moment #...
I said to myself all day, "I could have been a contender." I could have been, but I wasn't. It was a bitter day of ball striking but then isn't that golf? I walked a beautiful track with good friends and played along side one of the two qualifiers into the US Open. I'm going to turn on the TV and root for Dan Bieber who placed 2nd in the qualifier and will be traveling to Indianapolis for the US Senior Open. Congradualtions Dan. Enjoy the ride.
Go early, stay late and enjoy God's creation,
Byron

It was exciting to be there. Sam and I both know you usually golf way better than you scored yesterday.
We are SO happy for Dan, though. And if you think about it, not too many people yesterday had scores as low as I thought.
We'll catch you again soon. :D
I agree. I went in having great expectation. I like this attitude. I'll keep that :-)
